It all began in 1978 at the age of 17 when I had to sneak out
of
my house to purchase my first bike, much against my parents wishes.
By the end
of the first year of ownership the bike had been chopped, chromed,
piped, jetted
and custom painted. I had a low budget at the time so completed
the
work myself with the exception of the paint job finished in Augies
Garage which was right around the corner from my house. (25yrs
later Augies Art) I spent many hours thinking up
creations and ideas while riding my scout as often as possible,
including a
NY snowstorm on the LIE.
Many other Custom Bikes and Cars later, raising 3 wonderful kids
and
moving the family to VA to pursue my custom home construction
business and to
coach some of the greatest youth Hockey teams in the East. Found
myself with
time on my hands as well as a little extra cash.
Back
in 1999 I purchased a Softail standard which soon re-ignited the
flame and led me to a complete rebuild and customization to create
a multi-show winner. From Myrtle to
Daytona and across the US the flame bike was a winner and attention
getter. The timing was right and without much delay the word got
out what we
could do and soon enough we were taking orders and building custom
bikes. Then we opened our doors as Mad Dog Custom Cycles.
